Fighting the Patriarchy

First, this little blurb is not going into women's rights or our role in the Patriarchy. Over the weekend, I was watching a historical piece that had me thinking I would be screwed. I believe in equal partnership in a relationship. If I do dishes, you'd better believe you're picking up a sponge and washing them.

Let's look at the definition of the Patriarchy. The definition is as follows:

Patriarchy is the hypothetical social system in which the father or a male elder has absolute authority over the family group.

What the actual hell? Now, I am not saying I would be burned at the stake back in the day. In all fairness, I would have been because I am a free-thinking woman who would never yield to someone's claim to me. After all, I can produce children. I am glad I live in an age where I will not have to worry about that. But the thought of the Patriarchy does make my skin crawl. So this post was a quick shout-out to you, boss babes, who rise to live a happy life and do what you think is best. After watching that show this weekend, I discovered that I could be hanged from a tree, burned at the stake, put into a mental asylum, or divorced. Along with the divorce, I would have nothing.

Food for thought? I guess. Would I change my ways to be a perfect housewife? Could I live a life where I could not write and be myself? Could I give up my free will? Nope.
